Its county seat is Camden.The most populous place was Cherry Hill Township with 74,553 residents at the time of the 2020 Census, while Winslow Township covered 58.19 square miles (150.7 km2), the largest total area of any municipality.
The county was formed on March 13, 1844, from portions of Gloucester County. The county was named for Charles Pratt, 1st Earl Camden, a British judge, civil libertarian, and defender of the American cause.Camden County is part of the Camden, New Jersey Metropolitan Division of the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington, PA-NJ-DE-MD/Delaware Valley metropolitan statistical area.
